What Is This All About ?

The writers gathered here have adopted one of the 48 lions that appeared in "The Lions Of Lyon" series on the writing blog Shameless Words. By adopting a lion, the writers have become a member of this new writing circle. The lions have been posted in the sidebars of the writers' individual blogs, accompanied by a poem or piece of prose. Of course, it is hoped that the strength, luck and prestige of these mighty beasts will rub off on their owners! (Keep scrolling down to see the full listings of all members and their lions).

Latest News From The Pride

Monday, May 26, 2008.

Sadly, I have decided to suspend my personal blog, Shameless Words, which you can read about here. Unfortunately, this also means that I will no longer be able to maintain this site. But there's no reason why this "circle" can't remain in place. The lions can be kept up on your individual blogs, and the list of all of your details can remain here as a kind of networking tool. The only thing different is that I will not be able to organise any activities here. I also really hope the end of the collective short story will be posted at some stage. If anyone is interested in having a go at writing the final instalment, then please get in touch. I will happily post that. Thanks for all your interest and I wish you all the best with your writing projects in the future.

Collective Story

Bonnie has done a wonderful job at preparing Grace's story for closure. See instalment 21, which has just been posted. I am currently lining up someone to do the final piece and wrap up the story. This has been a great project, with lots of good teamwork. We also need ideas for a title. Please feel free to email your ideas.

Two New Members

It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to the writing circle's two new members!

Eric Valentine and Ms. Mephistopheles have adopted lions #2 and #12. Sadly, Lee and Gautami decided to bid us farewell, but their lions are going to great homes!

Lion #12 is going to a blog called Think Of The Devil And Her Horns Appear. Talk about a title that draws you in! Ms. Mephistopheles is the owner of the blog and she has decided to call her lion Leah. The beauty looks very much at home! You can visit Ms. M, and make her feel welcome, by clicking on the image taken from her blog below.

Lion #2 is also going to a wonderful blog, Scattered Chatter, which is produced by Eric Valentine in Canada. Eric has been a fan and regular reader of this circle for a while now and it's a real pleasure to bring him on board. He has written a great poem for his lion, named Sangilak. Do pay Eric a visit by clicking on the image of his blog's front page below.

Friends

We are always happy to welcome people to our friends list, which is in the sidebar of this blog. If you know of any of your regular bloggers who would like to be listed here, don't hesitate to send them an invitation to email me with their details. This list is used to help find future members if ever a lion becomes homeless.

Collective Story

The story will soon be coming to an end, and we need a couple of writers willing to help wrap it up. Do let me know by email if you have any visions for the end of Grace's story. This has been a great project, with lots of good teamwork. We also need ideas for a title.

Next project

I am currently working on the details for our next project, which will be something aimed at providing a useful writing resource for those wanting to improve their skills. Stay tuned!

That's all for now. Keep writing, stay strong and don't forget to let your lion roar for your writing!

enjoy your well earned rest seamus-although i cannot lie and say that the green eyed monster of jealousy isn't standing behind me as I write. the new guardian is fabulous, I love the way the sculpture protrudes over the steps. Most UNTRADITIONAL

That sculpture must weigh so much. I would love to go to Venice someday.

Love the Lion! He would have won hands .....paws down! Have a good hol Seamus and thanks for all the friends! :-)

I hope that you are having fun & that there will be photos of that fun.

Rob Kistner said...

WOW! It's a sculpture of my winged shameless lion, Artheo... very cool that he is our circle's guardian! ;)

I hope you have fun Seamus!

Perhaps when you return, you can get the circle's "serial short story" underway?

Andi said...

I hope that you are having fun.We all look foward to your return. :-)

Taking the traditional French holiday then? I hope you come back rested and ready for Autumn!

Andi said...

Looking foward to your coming back. :-)

I like the new guardians...abstract-looking.

Andi said...

It's neat that the children are allowed to climb on the lion's backs. :-)

I am looking foward to our next activity.

All of the members I read regularly still have their lions featured proudly on their blogs.

Maybe once the battle call to write is sounded they'll shape up?

Ah I see I've been named and shamed!

I have put the link in my sidebar but can't paste the photo due to the way my template is set up. I'm totally overwhelmed at the moment and don't have time to play with the template and change it.

I feel I should make my current position clear. There aren't enough days in the week or hours in the day for all I have to do in this life. I'm really happy to be part of the circle but can't promise to be a very active member.

As I said, the link's in my sidebar and I posted re the latest initiative. A picture of Shimshon sits above my desk and smiles down at me. But I'm afraid that's all I can offer right now.

If being a sleeping member of the pride means I'm preventing someone else from using the circle more effectively, let me know and with regret I'll have to bow out.

Either way, I hope you know I support the circle and its members and hope for only good things for you all.

Debi, no worries! It's good to have you with us, we just miss seeing your lovely beast! :-) Do you want to give me your blogger password by email and I can pop in to your site and try to get the lion into your sidebar. I promise not to change anything else and will discard of your password once it's done. That would save you having to tinker with things. Let me know. I did this for a few people who were having technical problems.

Debi said...

Ooooh - deeply scary! What if something went horribly wrong??? My blog is set up as a mirror to my website and I really hate to tinker with it.

But thanks for the offer and even bigger thanks for understanding where I'm at currently. My whelm is totally overed ...

I know of some lions who may well desire to be Lion Guardians too. There are eight of them, magnificent bronze beasts who guard the memorial of Cecil John Rhodes on the slopes of Devil's Peak in Cape Town.

S. Kearney said...

Debi,
No worries. I understand. I am the same about things like that. I hope things calm down for you soon. :-)

Absolute Vanilla,
Yessssss. We would love to have them as guardians! Can you get digital photos of them and send them to me? They would have to be your own shots to avoid any copyright issues. That would be great. Are you in Cape Town? A friend could take some shots for you? :-)

Unknown said...

I'd be delighted to take some shots of the Rhodes Memorial lions for you - will give me the opportunity to do something I've not done for a very long time - sit on their backs! Just give me a little while to get the pics - I've been down with the most horrendous flu and am still not over it. Will mail you digi photos as soon as I have them - probably some time next week.

By the way, you might want to change my lion's owner from Atyllah the Hen to Absolute Vanilla... & Atyllah, and the link to the Absolute Vanilla url.

S. Kearney said...

Great news, Absolute Vanilla (and Atyllah),the photos will be great. How exciting to get some guardians from another continent! And yes, I will change those links. I hadn't spotted that! :-)

Unknown said...

Erm, re the Guardian Lions header - it's Absolute Vanilla...(& Atyllah), not Absolutely Vanilla.
:-)

S. Kearney said...

Oh dear, sorry, that's what five days in Dublin does to you ... the guiness? Corrected now. :-)

Andi said...

I am fine with checking out happenings here. :-)

The other solution for communicating, to avoid any misunderstandings, is a group email list. This idea, from Verilion, seems perfect. What do you think? I wonder if people could send me their main/reliable email addresses if they're interested in getting updates/prods from me. I promise not to pass it on to third parties! Send a mail to: seak@caramail.com Thanks! :-)

S. Kearney said...

The good news is that I have in fact managed to get an email list together by digging up your old emails with the votes you sent in for the poem/lions contest! Yayyyy! Whew. So that means I will only have to contact those people who I still need an email address from. I will leave a comment in the blogs of those people concerned. Those people who may have changed their email addresses since they voted in the contest may need to let me know with a mail. When all this is done, it will be possible to send out a group email to alert you all to things happening here. Great. Thanks. :-)

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Poor Seamus, what control have we got over how our online voice is interpreted?
I'm appalled that you've been copping so much flack. It’s time that certain grumble bums grew up. If you want to be a bloody member of something-then be a bloody member. Otherwise nic off.
So...I guess I can expect a letter bomb or three.
A natural born ham like me may have to get used to the taste of spam--shudder.
Keep up the good work...I still wub ya.

Hi, first time to your site. Feeling quite overwhelmed, in a good way. I would like to become a member of the Circle, if you'll have me :) Please let me know what I need to do.

Thanks.

S. Kearney said...

Hi Jamaican Dawta,
Did you get the email I sent you. I detailed everything you need to know ... we'd be delighted to have you join us.

Anonymous said...

Shameless, I didn't get the email. Did you send it to broken2bblessed@excite.com?

Thank you for accepting me into this group.

S. Kearney said...

Hi JD, I've sent two long mails to that address now, but they've both bounced back to me. Do you have another email I can use? I'm sure we will get there in the end ... the upshot is that there is still a lion for you, but you need to check to see if it's a match for you ... Lion 25. You can check in the list below to see the photo. I hope you like him! .-)

Anonymous said...

Shameless, I LOVE him! He has locks, just like me. You're brilliant. I hope I can find a name worthy of him. I'll start working on my poem/prose.

Thanks again for everything :)

Apparently, my email address has been having issues of late. If you need to contact me, an alternate email is tommygirl.ja@gmail.com

L.M.Noonan said...

Welcome new lions and lionesses!
Tis sad to lose old virtual friends but the upshot is we gain new ones in the process. Like they say about 'new blood'...hmmm what was it-oh well, you know what I mean. It's natural that we should shape shift a little.
I shall try and update my blogroll as soon as possible.
Stay sane Seamus.

Beth and Richard - Hi and welcome! You've both been added to the friends list. Congratulations. If ever lions become available for adoption, we'll think of you.

Hi Aparna - Thanks. And congratulations on your award.

Just dropping to say hi. Looking forward to the next activity. :-)

I would like to be added to your Circle of Friends. I was roared a few months back by Eric Valentine who is the leading commenter on my blog (The Ancient One, Blessed Be He) which can be found at http://pvleon.blogspot.com

Keep up all your good work on behalf of the English language. As I look around, I find fewer and fewer people who enjoy the power of language and good writing. Blogging has been one way I keep my writing skills active. We need more efforts like yours.

Bluest Butterfly - Good to see you here. Once Grace's story is put to bed, I'll be launching a new writing project here. Stay tuned! :-)

Leon - Welcome! With a name like Leon, of course we would be delighted to have you join our list of friends. :-) Thanks for your interest. I will add you straight away to the sidebar. This can also lead to the future adoption of a lion, should one become available and you are tempted to become an owner. Thanks again, Leon, and welcome!
