What Is This All About ?

The writers gathered here have adopted one of the 48 lions that appeared in "The Lions Of Lyon" series on the writing blog Shameless Words. By adopting a lion, the writers have become a member of this new writing circle. The lions have been posted in the sidebars of the writers' individual blogs, accompanied by a poem or piece of prose. Of course, it is hoped that the strength, luck and prestige of these mighty beasts will rub off on their owners! (Keep scrolling down to see the full listings of all members and their lions).

Lion 29 - The Inner Minx

Lyon 29:

Bragi.

Artist behind the lion:

Jean-Claude Corbin (French visual artist).

Adoptive Writer:

Minx at The Inner Minx.

Blog Description:

Minx has one of the funniest and sharpest writing blogs in town. She describes slices of her life with genuine wit and charm and takes no prisoners in the process. She has developed a large following with a great mixture of photos, fiction, poems and real life stories. Minx has written a wonderful book about a witch called Dorcas and is in the process of writing a follow-up. She lives in Cornwall in England with the MD and the Feckers!

Poem or piece of prose inspired by the lion:

Song of Bragi

The runes are cut, tis written plain
Graven on the tongue
Bragi, wordsmith, wisdom comes
From Valhalla's raven depths
.
Skaldic beauty, promised cup
Overflows in Edda song
Call to the wild, plead the wind
To bring the roar of Odin's son.

About the lion's name:

Minx says:

"In Scandinavian mythology he is the God of eloquence, poetry and song."

So unlike you-to write something so full of magick and mystery!
Very nicely done darrrrrling.

Tis the witchery that makes me do it, LM. That, and the sheer panic of having to keep myself confined to 48 WORDS!!!

There was a limit? ;)

Nice job Minx - very Nordic and fantastikal

I've also discovered Bragi recently, so it's nice to see him in his full Lionly stature.

back to ancient times, i presumed. love the feel of the poem which could only happen with the brilliant choice of words. thanks for the lesson!

Bragi was a bit of a writing nutter - runes all over the place, so there was no question of his name.
I loved his colours, that iridescence speaks of magick and mystery - there was no other choice!

Interesting that you say there was no choice. I read this AFTER naming my lion and saying the same thing.

It's the same with fictional characters - Dorcas could only have been Dorcas, Jen and Jo could only etc etc

So true, Debi. I long ago learnt to go with gut instinct - works the same with people as well as lions!

Cool Viking lion Minx. Very elemental. Very you!

Bragi is the son of Odin. He was thought to have runes permanently carved into his tongue. He was told to let the runes out like butterflies at banquets of the gods, and in Valhalla in the form of poetry.
I loved this idea, Meloney, very elemental, very barmy, very suitable!
